Grilled Bratwurst with Bachan's Caramelized Onions


1. Heat the grill to medium on one side. Toss the onions with Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce and butter cubes. Place the onions on a large piece of foil and wrap into a loose packet where the onions are slightly spread out. Make sure the onions are secure and won’t fall out, wrapping twice with foil if needed.

2. Place the foil packet on the grill over direct heat. Cover and cook, for 10 minutes, then use a pair of tongs to shake the packet halfway through. Flip the packet over, cover, and continue to cook for another 10 minutes.

3. While the onions are cooking, place the bratwursts on the indirect side of the heat and cook for 15-20 minutes or until the bratwurst is evenly heated, flipping as needed.

4. Transfer the bratwursts to the direct side of the grill and sear for 1-2 minutes, flipping as needed.

5. Lightly toast the inside of buns over the indirect heat, then place bratwursts in buns.

6. Carefully open up the caramelized onions and stir. Finish the bratwursts with whole grain mustard and Bachan’s caramelized onions. Enjoy hot!

Note: get the pre-cooked bratwurst in the refrigerated section near the hotdogs, sometimes called “stadium brats.”


2 tbsp Bachan's Original Japanese Barbecue Sauce
2 onions, sliced
1 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
6 bratwursts
6 bratwurst buns
6 tbsp whole grain mustard
