For as long as I can remember, my Bachan—you might say Granny—would cook up the most amazing meals with our umami–filled, teriyaki-ish sauce! The recipe has been passed down and perfected over generations and today, my family and I are honored to share our authentic Japanese Barbecue Sauce with you.
To stay true to the original recipe, we cold-fill our sauce—which eliminates any need for additives, preservatives, or flavorings. Our crave-worthy flavor comes naturally from delicious, clean ingredients. Let’s eat!

Back when we started this journey in 2013, they told me "your ingredients don't matter", water your sauce down, make it as cheap as possible, you must use preservatives, and the only way to make it shelf stable is to pasteurize it. We decided to take Bachan’s advice instead.
Every time we make Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce it is produced in small batches, so that you only get the freshest of the fresh! Every batch is tasted at the kettle and approved by the Bachan’s Fam before it goes out. That means you get the true essence of our fresh ingredients and delicious flavor in each and every cold-filled bottle.
Bachan doesn’t like ingredients that have been genetically modified, and we don’t either! All of our ingredients are, and always will be, Non-GMO Certified, and most importantly Bachan approved.
Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce is Cold-Filled, which means it isn’t heated to a million degrees in production before bottling. This means that we didn’t have to use a bunch of artificial or “natural” flavoring to account for the flavor loss that happens when you pasteurize a product. All the flavor in Bachan’s is au-naturel, just the way we like it.
Authentic Japanese Ingredients and No BS (Bad Stuff)
All of our ingredients are of the highest quality. So when we say, “Our Ingredients Matter,” we really mean it! Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce is made using real Mirin, which is a staple in traditional Japanese sauces. Our premium Non-GMO Soy Sauce is brewed in Japan, the traditional way. Our fresh green onion, garlic, and ginger are all organic and we would never use any kind of powder or flavorings.
We formulated our sauce to be shelf stable without the use of preservatives—which are proven to be bad for you. We also don’t add any water to our sauce. Adding water is a sneaky way that other brands make a higher profit margin. Bachan doesn’t approve of any of that kind of stuff and neither do we!
BPA-FREE, Chef-Inspired Packaging
If you look in the kitchen of any restaurant you will see a bottle just like ours that the chef uses to apply their sauces—we like to think we make it easy to be an at-home chef. Don’t worry though our bottle is BPA-Free. The only thing Bachan asks is that you please re-use our bottle for any of your other favorite condiments or oils that you buy in bulk or that do not come in such a user-friendly bottle.
